Can't make this up: the Mount Rainier, Maryland edition

I knew when we bought our house, in Mount Rainier, Maryland, we were moving into a mixed neighborhood of artists, aging hippies and blue collar plebes.

Being the social guy that I am, I subscribed to the neighborhood/city's yahoo group listserve to learn up on the locals, the politics and the general goings on.

Most emails inquire into good contractors, rumors about our city government and the giving away of free garbage.

The listserve received the below email last night from Joanne Kirsch, enjoy its simplicity:

Coffee just not doing it today.. But man oh man what a weekend

Had a great weekend.  Rode 15 miles on the bike trails of PG County.

Why is that when I brought this up in conversation with a co-worker (who is from racist Prince Williams County, VA) she immediately asked, "Was it safe"?

White people, who have never lived in an urbanized area, are whack.....

Which leads me to an observation I had while on my 15 mile bike escapade.  Where are all the white children at????  Sunday was a beautiful fall day.  Each and every playground that I came in contact with (PG County bike trails connect several smaller parks with actual playgrounds with jungle gyms and all) was thriving with children.  All whooping and hollaring as they were having fun.  The only thing absent... NO WHITE CHILDREN.  Where were they?  I know my neighborhood and the towns surrounding it abound with children who are of the caucasian variety. Since it was beautiful, kids should be flocking to playgrounds with swing sets and slides and monkey bars.

Do white children  (or more to the point their parents) just not do public parks?

Sad.

Relaunching after 2 years

A lot has happened in the last few months that has made it important that I start blogging again. Let's just say, I will have a lot of time to do nothing but blog in the near future. Give me some time (couple hours) and I will have an update published to this very blog.

Weekend as a lock in

Didn't do much..

Cooked a delish cassoulete for dinner for the week. The use of a whole chicken will make it last for a week if not more...

discovered that there are limited funds in the bank... DAMN SEASON TICKETS.. it's tough, after a year at a job where you are paid $4000 less a year....than your previous job and with more expenses due to driving 22 one way five days a week..

soon i will be in Chicago, living off a per diem...

I lied actually, made if out early saturday to have a lite lunch with Mella at Matchobx (yum)..... On my way back home I spied DC blogger Jimbo crossing the street in Chinatown....i only know him from the photos he posts, on his site, of himself.... can't say i have ever talked to him online or in reality.... of course it might not be him at all... and just some bearded dude that looks awfuly similar to the doode in the pictures on Jimbo's bloggggggggg
