Richmond VA... learning the awesomeness of push button pain killers.

John Pugh IMHO was the better of the two singers. While Nic might have the showmanship Pugh hadthe better stylings.

Pretty much the same.

I drive on long stretches of road, passing faceless drivers.. personalities only passed on by the way they drive, their driving habits.

I pull into the gravelled drive and am greeted by the silent exterior of my warm home.

We cook, we eat, we discuss. Desserts, enjoyed most nights but not all.

Then we lie comatose. Trying to break that habit we sometimes turn on the radio, opening a Pandoras box of cacophony. These are moments i enjoy more.

Other times we attempt to complete projects that would make Sisiphus appear to be slacking. We take our time, as our home is here to stay.

Eventually we succumb.

It all starts again tomorrow.

30 miles on a 2 speed

Sunday was spent biking the Baltimore Annapolis Trail.

Mostly flat with gradual hills. While the peeps I was with had multi geared road bikes, I took up the rear in my two gear Marin Hamilton 29er. I pedaled longer and harder than my friends who could change their gear at the flip of a paddle or switch. All in all a great ride and an even better work-out.

What's with the Lance Armstrong wanna be's? DO YOU have to dress in all lycra? Do you have to spend money on specialized clothes, when normal clothes work just as well? It's not like it is a time trial or a mountain stage of the Giro d'Italia. Why do Americans feel the need to wear sport appropriate clothing to the particular sport they are partaking in? Just because you watch the Tour and casually bike on the weekends, does not require you to put on the "uniform". I understand that some sports do require special equipment, but last I checked scuba gear is not required for biking... SHit brother just roll up your right pant leg so your pants don't get caught in the gear...

I am sick an tired of seeing all the overweight Lance Armstrong wanna be's cycling on the trails of Maryland and the District.

But yeah anyway. All you need are two gears and a rolled up right pant leg.

I woke this morning, at 5:15 thinking i needed to drive 2 hours to Richmond, VA for a doctors appointment. Prior to leaving i decided to check my phone messages That had built up. Yes i have the odd ability of not checking my cell phone messages until months later. Low and behold I had a reminder message from the Hume-Lee Transplant Center reminding me my appointment was not until MONDAY, NOVEMBER 14th.

Probably why I think Charlie Davies is a selfish tool.... .. when my brother broke his neck in a pool accident at a neighbor's party (where alcohol was served) he had the opportunity to sue (and was even encouraged to do so by friends and family). Did he sue? no. Why? he took responsibility, even though he was not fully to blame.. its been 3 years since that accident and he just started a part time job. he has struggled to pay bills and his mortgage... his family (wife and two kids) had to get by any way they could.. draining life savings... draining my family physically, emotionally and economically.

Did he make $300,000 a year playing a game? no.
was he able to get up from his accident less than 2 years later and run? no
My brother walks now, with the assistance of crutches, but he will always be partially paralyzed.
Is my brother a stronger and better man than Charlie Davies? Most definitely.
Is he richer then Charlie Davies will ever be? yes cause he has the dignity to take responsibility for his actions.

Had a great weekend. Rode 15 miles on the bike trails of PG County.

Why is that when I brought this up in conversation with a co-worker (who is from racist Prince Williams County, VA) she immediately asked, "Was it safe"?

White people, who have never lived in an urbanized area, are whack.....

Which leads me to an observation I had while on my 15 mile bike escapade. Where are all the white children at???? Sunday was a beautiful fall day. Each and every playground that I came in contact with (PG County bike trails connect several smaller parks with actual playgrounds with jungle gyms and all) was thriving with children. All whooping and hollaring as they were having fun. The only thing absent... NO WHITE CHILDREN. Where were they? I know my neighborhood and the towns surrounding it abound with children who are of the caucasian variety. Since it was beautiful, kids should be flocking to playgrounds with swing sets and slides and monkey bars.

Do white children (or more to the point their parents) just not do public parks?

Sad.

Occupy Wall Street: Farming is Direct Action

First let me state, I am one of the 99% and I support the OWS movement. The above picture, by Lee Ranaldo, clearly states my position on what should be done. All the over educated under employed protesters on Wall Street who went to college and are having difficulty paying their student loans, let me suggest the following (and please do not take offense). Note, I want this movement to grow and consume the rest of America.

How about we, the under employed/over educated Occupy Wall Street protesters seek employment on America's farms as farm hands, in America's non-union factories on the line, in America's ditches as ditch diggers or in America's fast food emporiums. Bring this cause to the under educated working class in order that they may learn and join this movement. This movement need not be so selfish, as I see a lot of the OWS who want THEIR student loans forgiven, THEIR pay from corporate America to increase. Could this not be the same selfishness that is giving Wall Street and Corporate America the power they yield at a cost to us? I ask in all honesty, what about the REAL 99%, the working poor, the fast food emporium burger flipper, the chain store mall worker, or the migrant farm hand. A majority of the over educated OWS protesters were educated and prepped to work in the very companies that have their hands in the Wall Street coffers.

To you I say, Take direct action!

<p>I'm sitting at the transplant center waiting for my cytogam infusion. Which means sitting on my ass for four hours while meds slowly drip into my veins.  My donor, at one time, came in contact with a herpes type virus that lies dormant in their organs.  I knew the risks and signed off on taking a possibly infected kidney. The doctors informed me that 8 cytogam infusions would help my body not contract the possible virus (a type of herpes). Today's infusion is number seven, the eighth and final is scheduled for a month from now.

Infusion appointments are long and slow. To complicate matters, i was late to the appointment by 10 minutes, and since the cytogam is made to order here at the hospital I have to always wait up to and hour if I'm late by five or ten minutes.

So here i sit waiting for my meds to arrive.

On June 7, 2011 my wife gave me her kidney in order that I can survive, keep living, live a close to normal life.... IT WAS THE GREATEST GIFT I HAVE EVER RECIEVED... AND AM INDEBTED TO HER FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE... i will eventually go into more detail on this blog, regarding this event, in the future (after I have gathered my thoughts)... but for now i want to discuss the aftermath or one part of the aftermath:
Man Boobs
or Moobs if you are so inclined.

See, in order that my body doesn't reject the new kidney, that is now inside me, I am given large quantities of drugs, medications or pills. I average about 40 pills a day. All different kinds of pills.
It's successful in that i have limited side effects to the pills that I ingest.

However, there is one side effect that i have not been able to get away from....The Man Boob phenomena. I believe i have gained these training bra sized lumps from the steroid prednisone.
I take my shirt off in the front of the mirror and think to myself "who is that pubescent little girl standing in front of me, OHHHH it is none other than myself"
I find myself jiggling top side as I walk the halls of my office... i bounce as I take the stairs to my basement... and i protrude through a shirt, that just a few weeks ago was fitting nicely.

Now that I have had the stent removed (another good story for later) and have the ok from my doctors and nurses at the Hume-Lee Transplant Clinic, I have taken on a more ACTIVE exercise regiment.
Power Walking & Some Running for no less than 30 minutes a day. This WILL be increased to 45 minutes over the next few days with bicycling and swimming added.
I am hoping with the removal of the prednisone ( i started taking 5 pills a day after surgery, now down to 2 pills a day) from my pill regiment and the addition of more ACTIVE exercising, i will not only lose the 15 pounds my doctor wants i will reduce the size of my man lumps.

1117, the long time home to Mighty and the Ginger ( who is no longer a Ginger, for several years now) can no longer be considered our cave.

As of July 18th, 2011, we can now be considered part of the sect of home owners. No longer are we foolishly handing cash ($120,000 at last count) to another homeowner in order to conduct our top secret experiments in urban living.

We decided to pack up and move to the 'country.' Nights are filled with the sounds of tree frogs and chicadas battling it out for the top spot at Top of the Pops.

We have gone country peoples: with rain barrels, compost piles, a screened in porch and basement crickets. Large (very) basement crickets sing us to sleep each evening. Each morning we discover the carcasses of dead crickets, half consumed by our companions in crime: Gus and Camille our faithful and deadly, and armed with laser eyes, CATs.

Honestly, our country consists of three blocks across the DC line in great county of Prince George's. Our fair little 'city' full of the blue collared, hippie fetishizers, dabblers in the arts & art professionals. While we might only be 3 blocks from our former municipality, it is a world away with a fiercely outside the beltway mentality (who cares if we're 3 miles inside the beltway, HA!!)

Anyway... that's what's new... among other things... which I WILL get to eventually. So please keep checking back and let me know what's up and what you are thinking.

Kim was Korean, straight from Korea. His english was limited, I'd find him some times downstairs with the Korean Moonie who ran the lobby shop. CHips, sodas, klondike bars, and my favorite Mike & Ike's. Just talking in Korean, both looking miserable and lonely, the shopkeeper always looking bored.........
Sharlleen was my direct super, Duke graduate, so we had North Carolina in common. She was younger than me but was not naive to the Bossman's ways. She tried to warn me as best she could:

"He doesn't understand technical terms, so when possible use technical sounding terms so as to confuse and silence him. You'll be set if you do."

The Bossman liked to be as spontaneaous as he thought he could, never plannning to leave at a certain time, meetings never planned, everything just as last minute as possible.

This one morning, a birthday morning, probably my second or third week there , he hatched a plan to help celebrate Sharlleen's birthday. This morning he called Kim and I to his office.

I think it would a good idea if we sing happy birthday to Sharlleen. In Korean!

After a few minutes of convincing KIm, using various tones of

"The song you sing on someone's birthday????!! on the day someone was born"

Questioning ourselves whether or not he understood what we were trying to say.........Kim taught us the song you sing to those on the anniversary of their birth. Then on the bosses lead we burst into Sharlleen's office, one over eager spontaneous guy, one confused Korean and one embarrassed new hire, singing a half assed version of Happy bIRTHDAY IN Korean..

To whom it may concern:

I am submitting payment for this parking fine, not because I believe I am guilty of a violation but because I do not currently have the time, money or resources to fight such a ridiculous fine. I received this parking violation in the multi level public parking lot in downtown Bethesda.

On the night in question, my wife and I along with some friends planned to catch a movie and dinner. After submitting two hours worth of coins into the meter, after dinner at approximately 7:15, we ventured off to the theatre to view a 90 + minute movie (which started at 7:30). After the movie we decided to enjoy a few cocktails at one of Bethesda's many bars and restaurants, but before we did this I thought we should stop by the car to deposit more coins into the meter so as to avoid getting a parking violation. To my surprise when I arrived back at the car at approximately 9:25 there was already a ticket. Needless to say the idea of spending more money in a town or county that treated its guest with a $35 parking violation was not a priority. That night I wasn't in the mood to enjoy and celebrate Bethesda.
And as a person living on a budget, this was not $35 well spent.

My question to you is how do you expect people to celebrate and enjoy Bethesda through visiting its many movie theatres, restaurant and bars if you only allow them a ridiculously limited amount of time in which to enjoy Bethesda's many social venues? Especially when it comes to movies, these days movies run in excess of 2 hours. How are movie goers supposed to enjoy a movie if every two hours they have to leave to deposit coins in a parking garage that is 2 blocks away.

Please know that from now on I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my money, my wife's money and my friend's money is never spent in Montgomery County and especially Bethesda. Because Bethesda, Montgomery County hates visitors and those that spend money there!

The Lumberjack

We rarely if ever had meetings, when meetings happened they always divulged into tangents and anecdotes about subjects no one quite knew how to follow or understand. Rarely were meetings for everyone, but story time to help feed the teller's ego.

On this morning a meeting was called to address professional attire and tardiness. A few nameless colleagues (it was a small office so it wasnt hard to figure who) have
a) been regularly late to work and/or
b) not dressing professionally (read suit tie, or two steps up from business casual, or as we like to call it "bidness formal")

Minutes felt like hours as The Boss and my direct supervisor (live via teleconference) went on and on about the importance of dressing in professional attire and arriving on time. Knowing that this talking to was not directed at me I settled into a hazy dream world of "I DON'T CARE".

"No Jeans"

"No Sneakers"

"No Haltertops"

"When we say 9:00 AM, we don't mean 9:05 or 9:10"

Blah blah blah blah.............

Eventually the meeting was done and we all went onto do our respective tasks for the day......

The next day....

It was known around the office that The Boss liked to stay late and he liked the taste of alcohol, we weren't really sure if the staying late and the liking of the taste of alcohol were related but there was always alcohol in the office, be it in wine bottle form or mouth wash form (which is another story for another day). It was also easy to determine if the boss had stayed late the previous night because he always had bed head and usually was dressed in the same clothes or variation of the previous day's attire from the previous work day. So the next day after the "MEETING on professional attire" it was obvious that THE BOSS had stayed the night. Only on this occasion, accompanying his bedhead, he was dressed in a red and black flannel and a pair of jeans, that we later discovered he stored in filing cabinets,

Never again were we warned about attire.....

I almost don't want to say anything, but the coincidence is to fucking weird.

...the blogsphere masses scream at me as I walk the streets of Mount Vernon Square (or as I like to call it, LOwer Shaw or as the "let's rewrite the past" crew calls it Convention Center Land).

well if you must know... I was let go from my place of employment a few weeks back, during this time of post and pre employment I spent my time drinking coffee and watching copius amounts of football games (that's soccer to you mouth breathers). SO yeah, I was let go from a job I extremely disliked (wasn't as though as I was upset when I found out on that thursday). SO anyway, before i was let go I was able to line up a couple of interviews,miracously I was hooked up with a company appropriate for my career choice. and a week after i was let go i accepted a position.

So now that I am gone from THE ASSOCIATION, I will attempt to unload some unbelivable but true stories....

Ever since Jack Evans, ward 2 councilperson, attended the racist hate group ECCA's monthly meeting, the residents have gone apeshit (for good reason). Listserves and blogs (including THE NINJAMONKEY3000) have called Jack Evans out on his hate enabling.

Our blogging buddy over at Off 7th sent Jack Evans (he wasn't alone many other upset Shaw neighbors sent emails as well)an email asking what actions Jack Evans will take to fix the rift in the neighborhood.......

James Senior Building meeting, Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Association
Awards Banquet, Blagden Alley Neighborhood Association meeting, and the
Sheridan Kalorama Neighborhood Council, just to name a few.

I saw on an earlier blog someone invited me to attend an upcoming CCCA
meeting and I'd be happy to do so.

As the Councilmember for all residents, I am continuing to work on the
issues in your neighborhood and others in ward 2. In particular, I am
working closely with MPD and other organizations to address the increase
in violence in the Shaw neighborhood. We are also working to increase
economic opportunities. Just today, under my leadership, the Council
voted its final approval for the Convention Center Hotel to be
constructed at Massachusetts Avenue and 9th Streets, NW. We have also
continued discussions with Rhodeside in anticipation of breaking ground
at the O Street Market. Finally, at today's legislative meeting we
passed emergency legislation, the "Home Again Estates at Mt. Vernon
Disposition Emergency Approval Resolution of 2008" to ensure the block
of vacant properties needed to complete the redevelopment of the 1200
block of 4th Street in the Mt. Vernon Square neighborhood is addressed.

All of this follows on the announcement earlier this week that Shaw Jr.
High School will be replaced with a brand new Jr. High school and
community center...a great victory for our neighborhood. Additionally,
we look forward to the construction of the Watha T. Daniels
library...another important accomplishment for the Shaw/Mt. Vernon

I propose that we, the residents of Ward 2 and Shaw, make sure we kick Jack out of his part time job as councilman and vote for someone who will oppose hate in all its forms and promote inclusion and openness.

It appears Evans is shoring up his hate group vote quota by attending yesterday's ECCA.

The ECCA, for those not in the know, is the racist community association whose board was hijacked by the notorious racist, homophobic, rapist and pro-fascist Leroy Thorpe. This is the the same Leroy Thorpe who, through dirty political dealings, was able to hijack our ANC as an unelected parlimentarian and turn our ANC into an inefficient and ineffective local government body......

The ECCA, a community association, lately has taken to barring local residents and community leaders (read ANC commisioners), who do not bow in undulation when in the presence of the second coming of the prophet Mr. Thorpe.

Is this the behavior we want in an elected leader of ward 2?
